GARISSA (Halbeeg News) – Dozens of Garissa residents have taken to the streets to protest against re-emergence forced disappearance in the county.
The demonstrators accused the security of being behind the killings and disappearances of dozens of people in region during the fight against terrorism.
Six people from Garissa county have gone missing since last week as the war on terror.
They called on the government to open a public inquest into enforced disappearances in the county, saying the forced disappearance could create mistrust between the security forces and the locals.
Local leaders who spoke during the protest demanded an end extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances of locals and called on security agencies to treat volunteers of information with utmost secrecy to avoid victimisation.
