BELDWEYNE (Halbeeg)- Local authorities in Hiran region on Tuesday announce the formation of cohesive forces to take over the security of Beledweyne town.
Over one hundred of integrated forces drawn from SNA, police and security forces have been paraded today in a ceremony held in Beledweyne town.
The ceremony was attended by local authorities, MPs, leaders from civil society members and military and police commanders.
Speaking at the event, Beledweyne District Commissioner, Mohamed Oman Abdi said the forces will be deployed in different parts of the town to boost security.
“We expect these forces will do a lot to beef up the security of the town,” Abdi said.
Hiran police commissioner, Col. Issack Ali Abdulle who also spoke at the ceremony urged the public to cooperate with the new forces.
“These forces comprise of military, security and police forces, they were assigned to boost the security of the town. The public should work with the forces,” he stated.
For his part, SNA commander in Hiran region, Farah Ali Wasuge called on the forces to interact with the public.
“You need to secure the trust of the public, you should not point your guns at the civilians and create fear. If you welcome the public then they will participate and help (you) to restore peace in Beledweybe town,” Mr. Wasuge said.
Finally, Hiran Governor, Abdullahi Ahmed Maalin who addressed the forces at the ceremony said the formation of forces was meant to maintain law and order in Beledweybe town.
“The forces were formed for four main reasons, to maintain the security of the town, to fight against thugs who are harming the public, and to eradicate illicit drugs as the drug trafficking increases with the expansion of the town,” he explained.
The governor vowed that they will bring culprits and criminals before the law.
“The criminals will be taken to the justice and with the full support of the public, we will annihilate the criminals from this town,” he said.
