HUDUR (Halbeeg News) – Southwest state leader, Abdiaziz Hassan Laftagaren who is in Hudur town has urged Somali military to launch operations to reopen main route supply of Bakool region.
The leaders who week visited Hudur town held meeting with the commanders of Somali National Army (SNA) over ways to break al-Shabaab’s blockade which led humanitarian crisis in Hudur town.
“We SNA help us clear al-Shabaab fighters from this region in order humanitarian assistance to reach people of Hudur town, who suffered alot theses recent years,” he said.
The commander of 60th division of SNA, Gen. Mohamed Sheikh Abdullahi who attended the meeting has pledged that Somali army forces will soon launch operations to reopen main route supply routes.
Last Saturday, Laftagaren had urged the federal government, UN agencies and humanitarian partners to urgently intervene in humanitarian Bakol region.
He said the region faces serious food insecurity because of the Somali-based Al-Qaeda affiliated militant group, al-Shabaab’s, blockade in recent years.
Government forces and regional soldiers are in control of major towns in the region but al-Shabaab controls the countryside which has caused a humanitarian crisis.
Humanitarian access has been further complicated by climatic events and the condition of infrastructure such as roads and bridges, according to the UN.
