KUNYA BARROW ( Halbeeg News) – Senior armed group al-Shabaab official was killed on Tuesday in Kunya Barow area south of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
According to Somali National News Agency (SONNA) the operation was jointly conducted by a contingent from Somali special forces with support from US troops based in the country.
SONNA said the operation targeted a hideout of militants in a remote area in Kunya Barow vicinity.
A press statement released after the planned operation confirmed that there was no civilian casualty.
“The successful operation against the group al –Shabaab killed key figure and the move will reduce planned terror attacks against civilians from Kunya Barrow.” The statement.
“No civilian was harmed during the exercise.” It added.
Somali National Army backed by AMISOM peacekeepers have in recent months recaptured key strategic towns along the banks of river Shabelle south of the capital, Mogadishu.
The liberated agricultural towns are key to the security of the capital city Mogadishu which faced car bomb attacks from the armed which is fighting to topple the internationally-backed government.
