MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Suspected al-Shabaab militants attacked Hareri Hosle village in the border town of Mandera.
According to Mandera East Deputy Commissioner Omondi, one police reservist was injured during the attack while several shops in the area were looted.
Mr. Omondi said the militants were probably on a mission to restock food for Ramadhan.
He added that three cows and two goats were shot and killed during the attack.
Hareri Hosle is next to the Kenya-Somalia border on the porous Mandera-Lafey-Elwak route, which closed by the Kenyan government in 2015 due to increased attacks by the Somali based fighters.
The route was closed after the militants killed 28 passengers in a hijacked bus that was heading to Nairobi.
Al-Shabaab carries out attacks inside Kenyan mainly in the northeastern province under the tag of retaliation for Kenyan Defense Forces incursion in Somalia since 2011.
The group claimed responsibility for the attack of DusitD2 hotel in Nairobi in January.
More than 20 people were killed including US and UK citizens.
