NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Kenyan security agencies have arrested popular academic, professor Ibrahim Farah Bursalid on Thursday.
According to close relatives, plain clothes officers from Kenyan security department arrested the professor from his home in the capital, Nairobi.
Professor Abdiwahad Abdulsamad who is a close friend to professor Bursalid has confirmed the arrest adding they put lawyers in place to argue the legality of the arrest.
” We don’t know the main reason for his arrest but they must brought him in court in the next 24 hours.” Professor Abdiwahad told BBC Somali.
The international relations professor at Nairobi university regularly appears on the international media mainly at BBC and VOA as analyst on Somali issues.
Kenyan politicians of Somali origin have spoke about the arrest and making efforts for his release.
It is not immediately clear the real offense behind the arrest of Nairobi university lecture but the move comes after widely report list of Somali intellectuals to be sanctioned by Kenyan government over the maritime dispute case between Somalia and Kenya.
They include senior Somali officials, businessmen and politicians according to the Standard Newspaper.
