MANDERA (Halbeeg News) – Hundreds of Kenyan security forces have been deployed in areas in Garissa and Mandera counties long Kenya’s border with Somalia barely two days after suspected al-Shabaab fighters gunned down three Kenyan construction workers in Dhobley town.
According to locals in Dhobley and Mandera towns, dozens of vehicles headed to the border points. It is not yet clear whether the troops will cross the border into Somalia to hunt down the preparators.
In a statement on Saturday, the police said more security officials have been deployed to the region to tame al-Shabaab gang that is roaming there causing destruction and disruption of businesses.
On Friday, three Kenyans were killed and one injured after suspected al-Shabaab fighters attacked a construction site in Dhobley, Garissa County.
Police said the casual laborers were working when the attack happened. Those killed and injured were all non-locals.
According to the Police, the gang behind the attack was out to scare construction workers on various sites in the area.
Mandera, Wajir and Garissa had been borne the brunt of grenade and gun attacks in the last several years since Kenya took its troops to Somalia to fight the al-Shabaab group.
Al-Shabaab group has been attacking areas along Kenya-Somalia border while targeting mostly non- locals working in the region.
Many people, majority of them non- locals have as a result lost their lives with others left with permanent injuries.
The group vowed to continue staging attacks on Kenya’s soil until the East Africa nation withdraws from Somalia.
Kenya had sent its troops to Somalia in 2011 to fight al-Shabaab following several attacks in Kenya’s coastal region allegedly conducted by the terror group.
