WAJIR ( Halbeeg News) – The authorities of Kenyan government said the country’s security forces were in “hot pursuit” of al Shabaab fighters after the group’s assault on the police forces on Saturday in Wajir County.
Eight Kenyan police were killed a roadside bomb near the border between Kenya and Somalia.
According to Statement by the police, a vehicle carrying over 11 officers was hit by the roadside bomb.
Wajir County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara confirmed the 11 am an attack.
The attack happened in an area between Riba and Konton villages in Wajir east.
The commissioner said the government dispatched multi-agency forces to track the attackers.
“We are hunting down, our forces have already reached the scene, they combine the areas to flush out al-Shabaab fighters suspected be hiding there,” he said.
Kibaara noted that forces will be deployed in areas along the border with Somalia to restrict the movement of al-Shabaab fighters into Kenya.
“We will not let them go without testing the consequences of their attack. We operate along the border to bring al-Shabaab their knees,” he vowed.
The attack comes less than 48 hours after three National Police Reservists were abducted by suspected Al-Shabaab in Wajir county.
Al-Shabaab which has been attacking Kenya since 2011 uses IEDs to attack the security of the East Africa nation.
The group tries to pressure Kenya to withdraw its forces from Somalia.
Kenya deployed its military in Somalia in 2011 to fight al-Shabaab.
