MANDERA ( Halbeeg News) – The government of Kenya will today launch a long strategy plan to fight against terrorism and radicalization in Mandera country.
Al-Shabaab had been carrying out a deadly raid and bomb explosions in Kenya since 2011 when the East African nation deployed its military in Somalia to the group.
Led by Mandera governor, Ali Roba, and other officials from his county will unveil a six-year plan on prevention and counter-violent extremism.
County Chief Officer for De-radicalisation and Counter Violent Extremism Mohamed Adan Osman said the Mandera County Action Plan (MCAP) will be a major boost in winning the war against violent extremism.
He said the plan marks a defining moment for Mandera in the fight against violent extremism.
The development of the new action plan will help improve counter-radicalization approaches compared to the traditional security approaches,” he said.
He said the involvement of women and youth in the implementation of the plan has been factored in.
MCAP was developed through an extensive consultative process involving national and county government agencies, religious leaders and civil society.
Mandera which is on Kenya’s border with Somalia had previously witnesses attacks conducted al-Shabaab fighters.
The group majorly targeted non-locals who in Mandera country, leading the county to lose labor from other counties including doctors, teachers, and quarry workers.
