Kenyan authorities in Nairobi have suspended a political meeting organized by Wadajir Party, a political party in Somalia, sources said.
The event was scheduled to take place this morning at Sir-Ali Muslim Club in Kenya’s capital city Nairobi.
Kenyan authorities have not specified the reason behind the cancellation of the meeting.
The move comes barely two months after Kenyan Parliament majority leader, Adan Barre Duale warned Somali politicians against holding meetings detracting Somali government, in Nairobi.
“We are not against positive criticism but we will not tolerate political meeting aimed at destroying the achievements of Somali government. We called on those politicians who hold gatherings in Nairobi to derail the gains of the government of Somalia,” said Duale.
Wadajir Party led by former planning minister and 2016 Presidential candidate, Abdirahman Abdishakur, was temporarily registered early this month by Somali Independent Electoral commission.
Abdishakur was arrested late last year was accused of traitorship by Somali Attorney General, Ahmed Ali Dahir.
A court in Mogadishu had later released Abdishakur without charge after two days behind the bars for treason allegations
