NAIROBI (Halbeeg News)- Members of Kenyan senate house have voted for the removal of Wajir Governor Mohammed Abdi barely a month after he was impeached by Wajir members of county assembly.
The voting came after the 11- member Senate Committee recommended the impeachment of Wajir Governor.
Panel found the governor guilty of grossly violating the Constitution; County Government, Public Procurement and Asset Disposal and Public Finance Management acts.
The panel found the MCAs failed to substantiate the second charge of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The Committee found the governor violated the right to health of the people of Wajir county.
“The committee finds that the allegation was proved and was therefore substantiated. “The committee further found that the allegations meet the threshold for impeachment of the governor under Article 181 of the Constitution,” the report read in part.
According the senate speaker, the impeachment has garnered more than 24 of the 47 elected senators (delegation) which is needed to sustain the charge.
Abdi becomes the third governor to be removed from office through impeachment.
Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Mike Sonko (Nairobi) were both kicked out by the Senate last year.
