NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – The Kenyan military has said Somalia, and Kenya diplomatic row will not affect Kenyan soldiers serving under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Lieutenant Colonel Meshack Kishoyian, Commanding Officer Two Mechanised Infantry Battalion based in Kismayo underscored that a maritime border dispute had not affected operations of Kenyan forces in Somalia.
Speaking to one of the leading newspapers in Kenya, The Standard, Lt Kishoyian said he has not yet been informed any exit plan of Kenyan forces from Somalia.
“I have not seen any standoff whatsoever, we work cordially with Somali security forces and other AMISOM forces, KDF forms part of AMISOM, the military is straightforward, we are guided by our mandate, and we have a mission which we are currently implementing in Sector Six, issues of politics will be handled at the level of politics,” he said.
The remarks of Lt Kishoyian amid Somalia and Kenyan diplomatic relations worsen over a maritime boundary dispute.
Last week, three Somali government officials holding diplomatic passports who were planning to attend a meeting in Nairobi were denied entry into Kenya.
The officials include Osman Liban who is the Deputy Minister for Water and Energy and Senators Ali Ilyas Ali Hassan and Dahir Zamzam.
A day later, the officials landed back in Mogadishu Airport after spending the night at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
