NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Over 160 Pakistan nationals have been nabbed in week-long operations against foreigners living in Kenya illegally.
Hundreds of police officers who were deployed in Mombasa County have arrested foreigners as operations against foreigners working in Kenya illegally intensified.
Coast Regional Police Commander Noah Mwivanda who spoke to Daily Nation said 163 Pakistanis were found with fake or expired work permits.
“Those arrested were found engaging in car sales business or working in the export processing zones (EPZ,” Mr. Mwivanda.
Deportation
Mr. Mwivanda vowed that the operations will continue for the next two months.
The Kenyan police boss noted the government of Kenya will deport the detained foreigners to their country in the forthcoming weeks.
The operations come barely a week after the Kenyan government deported six Sri Lankans who were arrested in Voi town in Taita Taveta County for allegedly engaging in illegal gemstone trade.
The deported Sri Lankans did not have work permits.
The raids have intensified since August 27 when the Immigration Department set up the hotline number for citizens to report irregular migrants.
Amnesty International has condemned the move and urged the Kenyan government to halt the ongoing crackdown on undocumented migrant workers.
