Garissa (Halbeeg News) – Security forces attacked an Al-Shabaab camp in Garissa County on Monday evening, killing five alleged Al Shabaab fighters and injuring numerous others.
According to authorities, the camp is an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) logistical camp located in the county’s Harbole-Fafi district.
Authorities claim that members of the public alerted them to the existence of IED squads in the region.
The police said the officers met suspects hidden in the bushes, prompting clashes with suspected al-Shabaab fighters.
The special forces received aerial support from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to repel the suspects, resulting in the deaths of five suspected members and the escape of others who were injured.
During the operation, IED-making supplies such as batteries, copper wires, pliers, rounds of ammunition, a voltmeter, adhesives, nails and metallic pieces, fuel oil, and fertiliser were found.
Among the recovered items is a wooden walking stick with an inscription typical of the militant group’s top leadership, which is thought to have belonged to one of those slain.
