NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – The government of Kenya has reiterated its stance on withdrawal from its from Somalia saying no pullout will be make till UN decides fate of AMISOM.
Kenya Defense minister, Monica Juma told reporters that Kenya Defence Forces deployed to Somalia under African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) will not be withdrawn.
“The withdrawal is the mandate of the African Union which is the authorizing agency. It is not us to decide when to get in or out,” Juma said.
Kenya sent its troops to Somalia in 2011 to fight against al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia.
Currently, the East Africa nation has more than 3500 troops in Somalia.
Kenyan troops under AMISOM have several times undercome deadly attacks conducted by al-Shabaab fighters.
The deadliest attack on Kenyan troops happened in 2016 in El-Adde town of Gedo region.
Over two hundred soldiers were killed in the attack which lasted for several hours.
