Kenya police on Monday said eight security officials were killed in Wajir County after their Land cruiser hit a landmine on Sunday.
Al-Shabab fighters have been carrying out attacks against Kenya government since 2011 when the East African nation sent its troops to Somalia.
The officers who comprise of five Administration Police officers and three, are based at the Kutulo AP camp where on a routine patrol when the attack occurred.
The incident is said to have occurred around 2.30pm in Bojigaras, according to Kenya Media.
Bojigaras location is about 150km from Wajir town on the outskirts of Kutulo division which is prone to Shabab attacks and borders Mandera County.
Charles Owino, Kenya’s police spokesman said that five administration police and three reservists were killed “while protecting our borders and security of the county”.
Abdiasis Abu Musab, Al-Shabab’s military operations spokesman said the group killed 10 Kenyan soldiers in the attack.
The police names the officers who lost their lives as AP Sargent Abdiaziz Ali, AP Constable Abdullahi Hirab, AP Constable Thomas Mchere, AP constable Ali Mohammed Ali and AP Constable Ali Ahmed who was the driver.
The police reservists are named as Abdullahi Sheikh Yusuf, Daudi Ibrahim Ahmed, and Muhumed Yakub Abdi.
