NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Kenyan security forces have destroyed two al-Shabaab camps near Kenya’s border with Somalia, officials said Monday.
In a statement, Northeastern regional commissioner Mohamed Birik said in operations launched, multi-agency security forces targeted the camps which al-Shabaab used to train its fighters.
The camps were located in inside Boni Forest in Lamu county.
According to the commissioner, the team comprising military officers, rural border patrol police unit and the regular police.
During the operations, the forces managed to confiscate 19 rounds of ammunition, foodstuff, solar panels, and clothes.
He said that the security officers ambushed the fighters who managed to escape “but sustained heavy casualties from our security officers”.
The administrator thanked the security officers and the residents for partnering to enhance security.
“The militants should know that we are ahead of them. We will smoke them out of their hideouts and make sure that they are nowhere near our borders,” Birik said.
He said the incidents should jolt security officers and citizens to act because the militants are planning attacks in the borders areas.
