Jubbalnd youth organization have on Thursday delivered ration to Somali National Army and Jubbaland forces at military bases in lower Jubba.
The youth paid visit to military bases in Bar Sanguuni, Kaban Arare and Mana Muufo vilaages outside Kismato town.
The youth stated that the campaign is aimed to encourage the forces to speed up operations against Al-shabab fighters in Jubbaland regions.
Abdi Ibrahim, the force commander of 43rd battalion of SNA praised the efforts of the youth to show solidarity and stand with the forces at the bases.
“It is a good thing and encouragement to the government forces conducting operations against Al-shabab. I would like appreciate the youth who took this important decision” Said Ibrahim
SNA and Jubbaland forces are conducting joint security operations in Jubbaland regions. Al-shabab controls large swathes of land in Lower and Middle Jubba regions.
Al-shabab fighters carry out attacks against government bases in the region. Early this month, the group killed American soldier after carrying attack against a military base in Sanguni village outside Kismayo.
According to a U.S. Africa Command press release, combined force of Somalis, Kenyans, and Americans was conducting a multi-day operation to liberate villages in Lower Juba from Al Shabaab control and establish “a permanent combat outpost designed to increase the span of Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) security and governance.” Al Shabaab has been waging an insurgency to create an Islamic state in Somalia since 2006. In 2012, the group pledged its allegiance to Al Qaeda.
