MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Jubbaland state authorities have warned the locals against collaborating with Al-Shabaab amid intensified operations against group in south and central Somalia.
In a weekly meeting led by the President of Jubbaland regional state, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, the state’s cabinet issued a tough warning to anyone or any group who would threaten the security of the elections.
The ministers said the government will take action against traditional elders or anyone with links to terrorist organisations.
According statement, the authorities directed the security forces to enforce the tough security decisions.
Somali forces have recently intensified operations against Al-Shabaab fighters ahead of the country’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
In the last two months, Somali military claimed to have killed more than 200 al-Shabaab fighters in central and southern Somalia.
The military also recaptured villages during the operations.
Meanwhile al-Shabaab which still controls villages and towns conducts deadly attack on military bases belonging to Somali army and African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom).
The group also carries out bomb attacks in major towns including the capital.
Last Saturday, car laden with explosives targeted a convoy carrying Mogadishu police commissioner, Farhan Qarole who survived the explosion attack.
The attack happened at Banadir Junction, a busy road in Mogadishu.
The blast killed more than eight people including civilians and soldiers and injured over ten others.
According to the police, explosion also left trail of destruction including business centres and houses.
