KISMAYU (Halbeeg News) – Jubbaland state Officials led by the state’s 1st deputy President, Mohamud Siyad Adan have made a surprise visit to Somali Military base in Base Bar-Sanguni village.
Heavily-armed Al-Shabaab fighters this week stormed the base in which lies some 50 km away Kismayu town.
Mr. Adan, dressed in military fatigue, met the troops and inspected the different departments of the base.
The leader said his tour was aimed at assessing the situation of the base after the Al-Shabaab attack.
“We have visited the bases of Somali National Army and the forces Jubbaland, It was meant to lift the soldiers’ morale,” he said.
He has praised the forces for their strategies in fighting Al-Shabaab, saying they have borne fruit.
Last Monday, Al-Shabaab fighters attacked the base which lies some 50 km (31 miles) away from the port city of Kismayu.
It prompted hours of fighting which led both sides to lost several fighters.
The Somali government said its forces over 80 Al-Shabaab fighters in the attacked and destroyed Al-Shabaab technical vehicles.
On the other hand, Al-Shabaab in a statement posted on its affiliate website claimed to have killed over 20 soldiers and captured a government soldier alive.
No independent sources confirmed the claims of both sides.
