KISMAYO (Halbeeg News) – At least six Jubbaland soldiers were killed and six others were wounded in an al-Shabaab attack on a military base in southern Somalia.
Afmadow district official who spoke to the media said the attack which was foiled by the government forces took place in Sakai village.
“The attack was thwarted by our forces and 30 al-Shabaab fighters were neutralised but unfortunately we lost six soldiers,” the official said.
In a separate statement, the commander of the Jubbaland Darwish army forces for the Afmadow district, Mahad Mohamed Islam, said only six soldiers were wounded in the attack in the Afmadow district.
“We repelled al-Shabaab’s attack. So the enemy didn’t do what they wanted because a vehicle loaded with Improvised Explosive Device exploded in an empty military camp which is near our camp, and the second one was hit with a rocket outside the district,” Islam said.
Al-Shabaab in a statement posted on its affiliate media claimed to have killed more than 30 government soldiers.
