KISMAYU (Halbeeg News) – Jubbaland regional state in Southern Somalia has expressed its readiness to resolve its dispute with the federal government for the first time since October when it’s leader cut cooperation with the national government.
Speaking during a meeting with Upper House delegation in Kismayo on Friday night, first Deputy President of the state, Mohamud Sayid Adan has welcomed efforts by the upper house conflict resolution committee to iron out political stalemate between federal government and its member states.
“After the dispute emerged between regional administrations and federal government, we needed a third party to intervene and bring the two sides closer together,” said Mr. Adan, “There were several meetings to try and end the standoff but didn’t succeed but we are now confident that with the help from our representatives in the upper house the difference will be resolved.”
The Senate delegation led by Upper House speaker, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi is in Kismayo and also expected to pay a visit to other regional state headquarters in the next forthcoming weeks in a move to resolve the dispute of the states with the federal government.
Somali Upper House Dispute Resolution Committee and four cabinet members selected by Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre were tasked to review the grievances of the member states and come up with an amicable solution.
In August, the leaders of Puntland, Jubbaland, South West and Galmudug states decided to cut ties with the federal government during the conclusion of the meeting held in Kismayo.
The leader accused the Federal government of failing to handle the country’s security, of failing to fulfill its responsibilities toward the states in line with the country’s federal structure, and of taking its eye off the fight against al-Qaida-linked Islamist militants.
