MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The leaders of Jubbaland, Puntland and Southwest state of Somalia have finally appointed members to the Federal and State Electoral Commissions ahead of the long waited parliamentary and presidential elections which slated for next August.
In separate statements, the leaders submitted the names of the State Indirect Elections Team (SIET) and those that will represent them in the dispute resolution committee.
“The president of Jubbaland state of Somalia, Ahmed Mohamed Islam has appointed members that will be part of Electoral and Dispute Resolution committees of the federal government,” the statement by Jubbaland presidency reads in part.
The names include Siyad Mohamed Mursal, Abdikadir Mohamed Dhakane, Ahmed Abdi Nurr, Samsam Farah Abukar and Mohamed Osman Gaab.
Others are Ibrahim Adan Ibrahim, Ahmed Yussuf Mohamed and Abukar Nur Abdi.
On Wednesday Puntland President Saed Abdullahi Deni submitted the names of appointees at the federal and state levels to Somalia’s prime minister.
The eight members nominated to the state electoral commission are: Abdikarim Muse Mohamud, Muse Abdikadir Duale, Ahmed Abdi Mohamud, Eynanshe Yussuf Hussein, Eydarus Ahmed Farah, Farhiya Hussein Mohamud and Anab Haji Suileman.
Meanwhile, Southwest state leader Abdiaziz Laftagaren on Thursday handed over the list of eight members to the Federal and State level electoral committees.
The Office of the Prime Minister announced Tuesday the receipt of 67 names from the Council of Presidential Candidates which they said should be removed from both the SIET and FIET.
