KISMAYO ( Halbeeg News) – The new assembly members of Jubaland state of Somalia are due to select assembly speaker and his two deputies on Saturday.
73 members are expected to put in a secret vote to who will become the leader of the regional parliament in the next five years.
Current speaker, Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman is facing stiff competition from Hussein Shinow Ali.
Contingents from African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM) and Jubbaland regional police force are responsible for the security of the election venue.
Observers from the international community, members of Somali Upper and Lower house of parliament, as well as the opposition political parties’ representatives, are present at the election hall.
