Ahmed Hassan Abdi, Jubbaland lawmaker who was arrested for alleged incitement of political crisis in Jubbaland State will be arraigned in court in 24 hours, officials said Thursday.
Abdi was arrested on Tuesday in Kismaayo town barely a day after Jubbaland Assembly approved a request to strip off the immunity from prosecution.
Jubbaland deputy President, Mohamud Siyad Adan who spoke to VOA Somali service said the leadership of Jubbaland assembly and the Ethics, Discipline and Immunity Committee accused the MP of violation of the constitution.
Impersonation
Abdi was also accused of using names and signatures of Some of his fellow MPs whom he claimed to have signed the motion against Jubbaland cabinet, according to Adan.
“Ahmed Hassan Adan is also accused of lying about the other MPs whom their names were used for false document therefore he will be arraigned in court within 24 hours,” said the deputy President.
Motion against cabinet
The detained MP and several other lawmakers have reportedly submitted motion against Jubbaland cabinet which led Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam to call urgent meeting for the MPs.
Hours after the meeting with the President, Jubbaland Assembly stripped the impunity from Adan in a session chaired by Jubbaland parliament speaker.
The fate of the motion against Jubbaland cabinet is yet unknown.
The current cabinet was formed in 2016 by President Islam.
Jubbaland state which uses Kismayo as Interim capital was established in 2013.
