KISMAYO ( Halbeeg News) – The leader of Jubbaland regional state of Somalia, Ahmed Mohamed Islam and the Special Representative of the African Union Mission in Somalia and the head of AMISOM, Ambassador, Francisco Madeira met in Kismayo on Tuesday.
President Ahmed Islam, who held a press conference after the meeting said the two sides discussed ways to strengthen security operations in the state mainly clearing the roads cut off by armed group al-Shabaab activities in the area.
Also on the security matters, the two sides agreed that Jubbaland regional state of Somalia security agencies will be responsible for the upcoming regional elections in August.
On his part, African Union special representatives accompanied by AMISOM Force Commander. Lt. Gen. Tigabu Yilma Wondimhunegn assured that AU peacekeepers will provide necessary security back up whenever the need arises during the electioneering period.
Ambassador Madeira, who ruled out any changes to AMISOM troops in sector three called upon for transparent process in the upcoming democratic exercise in Jubbaland regional state.
