GARBAHAREY (Halbeeg News) – Jubbaland authorities in southern Somalia have banned residents from travelling to Al-Shabaab held areas amid the fight against the group intensified.
Speaking to the media, Jubbaland State Minister for Security, Mohamed Abdi Kalil issued warning prohibiting locals from visiting areas under the control of Al-Shabaab fighters.
He vowed that Jubbaland state will take legal action against whoever found of having a relationship with Al-Shabab.
“We hereby inform the local elders, not to travel Al-Shabaab held areas to hold a meeting with Al-Shabaab. Whoever visit those areas will never come back to stay in Jubbaland territory,” said Mr. Kalil in a press conference in Bardhere.
Mr. Kalil said the government forces nabbed two Al-Shabaab operatives in Gedo region.
“We have succeeded to apprehend two men who are members of Al-Shabaab hit squad and IED assemblers. They confessed that they had carried attacks in this town (Bardhere). They will be arraigned in court soon,” he stated.
Al-Shabaab controls a large swath of the country’s southern regions.
The group carries out attacks against military bases, government institutions, and hotels in main towns.
This week, Al-Shabaab suicide bomber has detonated explosive-laden car at the gate of Hodan District headquarters in Mogadishu.
The blast killed over ten people and wounded several others.
