KISMAYO (Halbeeg News) -Jubaland lawmakers have today elected the last four senators including two women ahead of the commencement.
Leyla Nur Maah has won the fifth seat after garnering 63 votes out of 72 possible votes.
Her opponent Sareedo Mohamed Sheikh got nine votes as no votes were declared invalid.
In the sixth seat, Ibrahim Aw-Gaab was elected after defeating Farxiya Moalim Abdi by 57 to 14 votes.
Zamzam Mohamed and Maryan Farah faced off in the seventh race with Farah emerging winner with 50 votes against Mohamed’s 22.
Hassan Dahir Yarow was elected as a new senator after beating his challenger Abdi Mohamed by 59 to 14 votes.
The conclusion of today’s vote adds to eight the number of senators elected for Jubaland. The first four senators were elected on July 29.
The southern state now prepares for the election of Lower House which starts with the selection of electoral delegates.
