KISMAYO (Halbeeg)- The authorities in Somalia’s southern regional state have given an unspecified amount of money to a recently defected Al-Shabab fighter in Kismayo town.
Al-Shabab fighters defecting their group has been increasing in the recent past following stiff operations against Al-Shabaab.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Ahmed Muse Hirsi, head of Jubbaland security forces said Adan Hudow Abdi who surrendered to Jubbaland, was rewarded with cash.
“Adan Hudow Abdi who handed over his rifle to the authorities, was given cash. Whoever defects from Al-Shabab and surrender his weapon will be given same prize,” Hirsi said.

He pledged that Jubbaland state will continue rewarding the Al-Shabab defectors.
“Jubbaland will give cash to any Al-Shabab defector who surrendered his weapon to the authorities,” he affirmed.
Abdi was reportedly an official in Al-Shabab group and came over to Jubbaland’ s side this week.
He handed over his AK47 rifle and magazines to authorities in Kismayo town.
This comes three months after another Al-Shabab fighter who defected to Southwest state was given 15,000 USD.
The fighter arrived in Baidoa in a combat vehicle with a machine gun mounted on the back.
He surrendered the vehicle and the machine gun to Southwest state authorities.
Somali forces backed by continental troop have stepped up the fight against Al-Shabaab fighters in South and Central Somalia.
Al-Shabab group which once controlled many towns in southern Somalia wants to overthrow the Somali government.
