MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Federal government of Somalia has accused Puntland and Jubbaland states of obstructing electoral talks with the national leaders, further deepening the electoral stalemate.
In a series of tweets, Villa Somali director of communications, Abdirashid M. Hashi said Jubbaland and Puntland Leadership continued to hold Somalia in Ransom by ignoring Baidoa technical committee recommendations.
“Finally, as part of the government’s effort to transition Somalia towards peaceful, inclusive, timely and transparent elections, President Mohamed Abdullahi farmajo agreed to engage in the Leadership consultative summit; unfortunately, Jubaland and Puntland Leadership dishonored the Forum,” the director said.
The remarks of the Villa Somalia communication director hours after the government announced collapse of the latest round of talks between the Somali central government and the five federal states’ leaders and the mayor of Mogadishu. to end a political stalemate on elections.
Somali Information Minister Osman Dubbe said leaders of the regional states of Puntland and Jubbaland are not willing to hold elections based on agreements of Sept. 17 and Feb. 16.
“I want to make it clear to the Somali people that the two presidents of Puntland and Jubaland do not want to hold elections in the country and they failed the talks,” Somalia’s Information Minister Osman Abukar Dube said in Mogadishu, the nation’s capital.
