MOGADISHU ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The Italian government has approved USD six million to finance flood prevention mechanisms in Somalia Hirshabelle state.
The news was confirmed during a meeting between the deputy ambassador of Italy to Somalia Fabio Masimo and the leader of Hirshabelle state Mohamed Abdi Ware in Mogadishu on Saturday.
The funds were withheld by the Italian parliament in October last year due to delay from Mogadishu, but the claims were later denied by the ministry of planning saying they already submit the proposals to their counterparts in Rome.
The leader of Hirshabelle state Mohamed Abdi Ware thanked the Italian government for the support saying the funds will help in implementing a long-lasting project to avert the recurring flash floods mainly in the Hiran region.
