Somali Federal government is committed to reconcile and unify Somali people to achieve lasting peace and stability, Interior minister said Tuesday.
Two-day National reconciliation conference officially kicked off in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
The meeting organized by the Federal Ministry of Interior and federalism will cover wide range issues including conflict and peace, means to uproot animosity among the public and justice.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Interior minister, Abdi Mohamed Sabriye, said his ministry will work hard to reconcile the clans so as to realize peace and security in the country.
“The government will do all its efforts to bring Somali together; the reconciliation is the best way to achieve lasting peace in this country. Today we are here to chart out the reconciliation plans and means to overcome the challenges facing this country,” Sabriye said.
The Special Representative of Secretary-general for Somalia, Michael Keating who spoke at the conference has commended Somali government for its efforts to establish lasting peace in the country that past passed over two decades of civil war.
Representatives from Federal government, Regional state, NGOs officials from EU, UN and civil society members are attending the conference
