KISMAYO (HALBEEG NEWS) A conference for inter-state council leaders was on Saturday concluded in Kismayo, the interim administrative capital of Jubbaland state.
At the end of the conference, the regional leaders issued a communiqué.
The leaders declared to have suspended relations with the fededarl government of Somalia until all the agreements they previously reached with the government are put into practice.
“Since the issues that are important to good working relationship between the sides, the council agreed to suspend the working relationship between the regional states and the federal government”
The council has welcomed holding of one man one vote in the country the year 2020.
“The council welcomes holding one man one vote polls, that election can be possible when there is good working relationship between the sides. The council also stresses protection of the independence of the electoral body” the statement reads in part.
The council has urged strengthening the constitutional power of the senate for the regional states to get a concrete representation in the government.
The council has also sent condolences to the relatives of the people killed and those wounded during the last blast in Mogadishu.
“ The council sends heartfelt condolences to families and relatives whose loved ones were killed and wounded in the blast that occurred in Mogadishu on 2nd September 2018. May God have mercy for those killed; we also wish quick recovery to the wounded victims” reads the statement.
During the five day meeting in Kismayo, the leaders discussed security, resource sharing, fighting Al-shabab militants, reintegration of forces and upcoming elections in some regional states.
