MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least ten al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and close to a dozen wounded when a vehicle they were travelling ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) in central Somalia.
According to the state-run media, the attack occurred on Friday in an area near Qeycad village in Mudug region.
“Al-Shabaab militants were killed and others were wounded in an explosion caused by an IED that hit their vehicle in a village near Qeycad,” the Somali National Television reported.
The group has not yet commented on the incident which reportedly claimed.
Al-Shabaab is well known to bury IEDs on roads used by the government forces and Amisom.
Somali government forces backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) have been fighting al-Shabaab since 2007.
The government forces managed to liberate dozens of major towns including the capital after fierce fighting with Al-Shabaab.
Somalia is expected to start its Lower house elections as the Upper House election.
