MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Telecommunications Company, Hormuud has spoken about the vandalism caused by Kenyan forces in Southern Somalia.
In a statement, Hormuud company said the company continues to suffer huge losses due to vandalism of its telecommunication masts in Gedo and Lower Jubba regions.
“Monday, 13th August at about 1 am as confirmed by locals and Hormoud workers, Kenyan forces destroyed Hormuud communication mast in Ali-Buley village which lies 31km north of Dhobley town,” the statement reads.
The company said six telecommunication masts have been destroyed in different parts of the two regions on the Somalia-Kenya border in blatant attacks carried out by Kenyan troops in the last few months.
“Kenyan troops are destroying Hormuud centres along Somalia’s border with Kenya for the sixth time,” the company noted
The statement stated that there is a loss of communication with the locals in those areas.
“The destruction of the mast disrupted the communication, residents lament, would hamper businesses as locals who used to send money via Hormoud mobile money service will no longer able to send their money,” the statement said.

Neither Somali government nor the local authorities in area commented on the attack by Kenyan forces.
Kenyan Anti-terror Unit activities in the region have persisted in the towns in the last few months, according to residents.
