The local authority of Hiran region has suspended the use of Tractors as transport in Beledweyne town.
Two people were killed on Friday after a tractor they were travelling in being swept away by floods after River Shabelle breached its banks.
Mohamed Noor Dabashe, the spokesman of Hiran region who spoke to the media said the administration put the powerful motor vehicle on hold as transport.
Dabashe noted that the grisly accidents involving the tractors used as PSV (Passenger Vehicle Service) increased since the town has been inundated with heavy floods.
“We have noticed that the accidents of Tractors caused by these floods have rapidly increased, to avert such tragic incidents we have hanged the use of these vehicles,” said Dabashe.
The spokesman directed the residents of the town to wade out on foot.
“We ask all residents to transverse the flooded areas by foot at the shallow areas, people will use boats where ther is heavy floods” he directed.
In recent days, Beledweyne residents have been using tractors to wade the flooded areas in the town.
The directive comes on the heel of yesterday’s tragic accident which claimed lives of two people in Beledweyne town.
