The local authorities of Hiraan region have started repairing roads in Beledweyne town after sections of the roads washed away by floods.
In April, heavy flood waters hit many parts of the town after Rover Shabelle breached its banks following torrential downpours in Ethiopian highlands.
Several bulldozers deployed clears roads before the upgrading kicks off.
Beledweyne district commissioner, Mohamed Osman Abdi, and other officials from his administration have inspected the upgrading of roads in the town.
Speaking to media, Abdi said the floods cut off the main roads in the town leaving Motorists plying different suburbs of the town stranded.
He said that he is optimistic that the work would be completed soon.
“These roads are very important for the transport of the people and goods and administration is committed to repair them. I hope they will be accessible soon,” said Abdi.
Heavy downpour and floods witnessed in various parts of the Beledweyne town in April left trail of deaths and destruction.
Over four people were killed and more than 200,000 people displaced as floods washed away their homes.
Transport has been affected in many areas in the county since many roads were rendered impassable and the river overtopped.
