Jowhar (Halbeeg News) – Governor of the Hiraan Region, Ali Jeyte announced plans to impose a siege on areas controlled by al-Shabaab in the region.
In a statement, the governor vowed not to allow commercial goods to reach towns and villages under al-Shabaab control.
“Any vehicle carrying essential food supplies or fuel cannot cross into Al-Shabab held area. We will intensify inspections,” he said.
Jeyte has been spearheading operations against al-Shabaab fighters for the past year.
During the operations conducted jointly by Somali National Army and local militias, the government succeeded in liberating many towns and villages in the Hiiraan region.
The government has claimed to kill hundreds of fighters in the region.
