BELED-WEYN ( Halbeeg News) – Heavy downpour in Hiiran region of Somalia has ceased air transport to the region’s administrative of Beled-Weyne.
Deyr rainfall which started in the most part of the region has partially flooded Ugaas Khalif airport in Beled-Weyne local authorities confirmed on Sunday.
Local airline operators have informed the travelers that the operations were halted until further notice.
Travel agency managers told local media that the air travel to Beled-Weyne is not possible in the next few days due to flooding on the small runaway at Ugaas Khalif airstrip and thus helicopters used by the UN and AMISOM agencies are the only air transport accessible to the regional administrative capital.
River Shabelle, which divides the city has several times before broke its banks causing severe flooding that resulted in damages to the properties and farm produce.
Most travelers mainly government officials prefer air transport due to security issues posed by the armed group al-Shabaab that besieged key classified roads.
