NAIROBI ( Halbeeg News) – Safaricom which is Kenya’s largest mobile network provider has confirmed that its CEO Bob Collymore has passed away.
Mr Collymore died earlier this morning at his home.
A statement from Safaricom chairman Nicholas Nganga says the condition of Collymore worsened in recent weeks.
Collymore died at the age of 61 on Monday 1 July at his home in Nairobi after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He has left behind one wife and four children.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore CEO if SAFARICOM. PLC, which occurred at his home in the morning of 1st July 2019,”read part of the statement.
Collymore had travelled to Britain in October 2017 and received treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and he had since been undergoing treatment for the same condition, the company said.
“In recent weeks, his condition worsened and he succumbed to the cancer at his home in the early hours of Monday…,” it added.
