Unidentified gunmen have killed an elder in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday evening, witnessed confirmed on Thursday.
Suspected Al-Shabab hit squad teams have killed dozens of elders and electoral delegates since the country’s last election took place in 2016.
Hassan Ali Ibrahim who took part in 2016 election as an electoral college was gunned down on his way home in Dharkeynley district.
According to witnesses who spoke to Halbeeg News, Ibrahim was shot dead near his home after armed men approached him as he walked out of the mosque.
The assailants managed to escape from the crime scene.
The security officials arrived at the scene shortly after the murder and could not apprehend the killers.
The group killed dozens of traditional elders who played a pivotal role in forming Somali parliament and the government.
