MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Unidentified gunmen on Saturday night killed a soldier in Mogadishu, the latest string of attacks against Somali forces.
According to reliable sources, unknown men armed with pistols opened fire on the soldier who was inside a mosque.
The bizarre incident took place in Hamar-Jajab district.
“We were observing evening prayers when we heard gunshot inside the mosque, We were all shocked, subsequently we saw blood oozing from one member of the congregation. he died on the spot,” said a witness asked anonymity.
The witness said the victim was later identified as a government soldier.
The assailants reportedly managed to escape from the scene before the law enforcement reached the area.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack.
Al-Shabab which has been fighting Somali and AU troops since 2007 carries similar attacks against the government officials, soldiers, and NGO workers in the capital.
