MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali goverment has dispelled claims that it would not turn up in Federaal and regional stakeholders’ talks in Dhusameeb saying it is committed to participate it.
In a statement, Somali minister constitution, Salah Ahmed Jama’ affirmed that the conference will take place on the 15th of this month.
“The meeting will be held on 15th of this month, no delay will occur. The final preparations are underway for the conference to take place,” he said.
He accused Puntland and Jubbaland leaders of being reluctant to attend the conference saying there are ongoing efforts to convince both leaders to turn up the conference.
“The leaders of Southwest Galmudug states, some of government are trying resolve the differences. Hope the meeting will take place on time,” he said.
The National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) two week ago ruled out any elections this year based on the current electoral law noting the earliest an election can take place is March 2021.
This, the NIEC chairperson Halima Yarey was based on the account the country settles for manual voter registration which should start this month.
The second option, the electoral boss said was to opt for biometric voter registration in which case the country will be ready for elections in August 2021.
