DHUSAMAREB (Halbeeg News) – At least 30 al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and dozens wounded in a security operation conducted by Somali forces in central Somalia.
According to a statement by Galmudug Internal Security Ministry, the fighters were killed by the Somali National Army and Galmudug regional forces in Mudug region.
The operations took place in Farah-Adan and Wadariq localities.
The development comes barely days after US government killed al-Shabaab fighters in airstrike in Central Somalia.
Somali government forces backed by local militias launched all-out war against al-Shabaab fighters in south-central regions.
The allied forces recaptured dozens of villages and towns in Hiiraan, Galgadud, Mudug and Middle Shabelle regions.
According to the government, the forces also killed hundreds of fighters during the nine-month operations against al-Shabaab.
Despite the lossing many towns and villages, Al-Shabaab is still capable of carrying out deadly bombings in major towns controlled by Somali government.
This week, the group attacked a residential house in Mogadishu, killing at 10 people and injuring over a dozen.
The group also attacks military bases manned by Somali National Army and AU forces outside the capital.
