Kenya’s ministry for Education and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) are holding consultative conference over mass transfer of non-local teachers in Wajir.
Recently, hundreds of parents and students have protested over transfer of non-local teachers from the country following Al-shabab attack on Qarsa Primary School where two non-local teachers were killed.
The meeting which is attended by stakeholders, education officials from county government focuses on the means to reduce the impact of the transfer.
North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh who confirmed the conference said the government officials are holding talks with TSC leaders over the unfair decision to relocate 900 teachers from Wajir County.
“It’s unfortunate that TSC decided to carry out the transfers without proper consultations with all the stakeholders. But right now the government is discussing the issue” said Saleh.
Saleh said the government is committed to solve complains of the public so as to ensure that leaning is not disrupted.
“We are in agreement that non local teachers along the border should be taken to safer areas but not outside this county,” he affirmed.
The transfer of the teachers from Wajir and other parts of the region came after Al-shabab gunmen attacked Qarsa primary School in Wajir in February and killed two non-local teachers and another non-local woman.
The education in North-Eastern gradually came down to its knees after hundreds of Non-local teachers deserted the region in fear of Al-shabab attacks.
