Cairo, (Halbeeg News) – At least 7 members of the same Somali family residing in a single apartment in Cairo, Egypt, were found dead in what authorities attributed to the family’s proximity to an open cooking gas tank.
According to reports, the family, consisting of six members perished after being exposed to gas left running in their home as they slept.
The victims, who had recently arrived in Egypt, were discovered after family members lost contact with them late Friday afternoon, according to Hassan Hirsi Hussein, a relative.
“We contacted the Somali Embassy in Cairo after failing to reach them and eventually had the door to their house broken open,” Hussein told journalists.
“The six victims included the father, his son, daughter, the daughter’s two children, and her husband,” Hussein added.
Hussein further noted that Egyptian health officials are currently examining the victim’s bodies.
