Galmudug Assembly Speaker, Ali Ga’al Asir has said he was not aware of the merger with the moderate Islamist group Alhu-Sunna Waljama’a (ASWJ).
The leaders of Galmudug State have differed in the process to unite the assemblies of Ahlu-Sunna Waljama’a and Galmudug state after the sides engaged in power-sharing deal following successful talks brokered by the Federal Government.
Speaking at meeting in Adado town, Ga’al noted that the sides need to discuss more before the deals implemented.
He said the charter signed by the sides has not been submitted to his office. The speaker pointed out that he did not receive the list of the merged assemblies.
“I do not know about the merger of Galmudug Parliament and Alhu-Sunna Waljama’a, I am also not aware of the so-called constitution and I have not received the list from the other side,” he said.
Last December, Ahlu-Sunna Waljama’a and Galmudug state inked agreement to bury the hatchet and form an inclusive government in central Somalia.
The power-sharing dealing has culminated in the formation of Somalia’s most bloated regional assembly following a ceremony in Dhusamareed to merge the assemblies of the sides.
According to the power-sharing deal, Ahlu-Sunna Waljama’a was needed to submit 89 members to merge with Galmudug Assembly.
Since March, leaders from Galmudug state have been at loggerheads over the implementation of the process to unite the assemblies of Galmudug state and Ahlu-Sunna.
