The regional parliament of Galmudug has on Thursday held its session in Dhusa-mareeb district, the administrative capital of Galmudug state for the first time since the two parliament were merged before days.
The session which was chaired by the speaker of Galmudug Parliament, Ali Ga’al Asir said that the sitting of the assembly is a preliminary meeting aimed at familiarizing between the members of the newly merged parliament.
Mr Asir also called on the lawmakers to collaborate and work closely for the betterment of the state and the people of Galmudug.
“Today’s session was an introductory between the members of the assembly which consist of the lawmakers f the merged assemblies. Therefore we discussed on the way forward,” said Asir.
On Tuesday, the leaders of Galmudug and Ahlusunna appended their signatures to final process of merging the assemblies of both factions in a ceremony held in Dhusamareeb town.
The Regional Assemblies unification Agreement was inked by Galmudug President Ahmed Duale Haaf and the state’s Chief Minister, Sheikh Mohamed Shakir.
The event saw the formation of Somalia’s most bloated regional assembly with 178 MPs.
Last year, after Galmudug and Ahlusunna agreed to merge their assemblies, Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo ordered the merged Assembly operate in Adado town as other organs government would move to the administrative capital of the state.
