The leaders of Galmudug state and Ahlusunna Waljamaa have appended their signatures to final process to expand the state’s Assembly.
The new assembly will have 178 members making the state, the first to have the largest number of lawmakers in Somalia’s regional states.
The two assemblies were merged in a ceremony held at Dhusa-mareeb, the capital of Galmudug state.
Speaking at the ceremony, Galmudug Assembly Speaker, Al Gacal Asir called on the members to collaborate and jointly work for the betterment of the state.
The event was attended by Galmudug President, Ahmed Duale Gualeh and the state’s Chief Minister, Sheikh Shakir ministers, government officials and civil society groups.
The initial number of Galmudug Lawmakers was 89.
Galmudug state and Ahlusunna signaed power Sharing deal late last year following long discussions between the factions.
Galmudug state is expected move to its capital, Dhusamareeb which was under the control of Ahlu sunna since 2015.
