MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Four Somali soldiers have been killed and five others injured in a bomb blast in Lower Shabelle region.
The officers died after their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device on Marka-50km road on Wednesday.
The attack took place at about 01:00 pm local time as the officers were on their AMISOM base in 50km village which lies outsideĀ Somali capital Mogadishu.
The landmine suspected to have been laid by Al-Shabaab fighters extensively damaged the soldiers’ vehicle which was part of a convoy but was the only one damaged in the massive explosion.
The injured soldiers were transported to Mogadishu for treatment.
There was no immediate comment from Somali military commanders.
The latest attack came a few hours after another roadside blast killed 10 military officials in Abdala-Birole village, located on the outskirts of Kosmayu.
The attacks took place despite increased joint military operations by SNA and the allied forces in the areas of central and Southern Somalia.
Al-Shabaab has in the past launched attacks in the region targeting military bases and convoys.
